Your Nervous System Reset: The Key to Deeper Healing

If you’ve ever tried to use a glitchy phone or a slow computer, you know the frustration | apps don’t open right, your clicks don’t register, and everything just feels… off. You can download new programs, change your wallpaper, or add more storage, but if the operating system itself isn’t updated, nothing runs as smoothly as it should.
Your nervous system works the same way.
The Control Center Comes First
Your brain and nervous system are your body’s operating system. Every muscle you move, every organ that functions, every breath you take is all coordinated through the constant back-and-forth communication between your brain and body.
When joints in your spine or other parts of your body aren’t moving well (what we call a subluxation), those areas stop sending accurate proprioceptive signals to your brain. Proprioception is your body’s internal GPS telling your brain where you are in space, how you’re moving, and whether you’re safe.
Without clear, consistent input, your brain starts operating in a kind of “protect mode,” tightening muscles, altering posture, and even affecting organ function. This is where you might feel pain, tension, or that sense of being “off” no matter what you do.

What an Adjustment Really Does
A chiropractic adjustment isn’t about “popping” a joint, it’s about delivering a quick, specific input that stimulates the proprioceptive nerve endings in that area. That input travels up to your brain, saying, Hey, here’s what’s really going on down here.
This resets the feedback loop, like hitting “refresh” on your browser or updating your operating system. Suddenly, all your other “programs” (breathwork, massage, grounding practices, exercise) have a clean, updated foundation to work from.
Why We Still Love Massage, Yoga, and Movement
If you’ve been around our office, you know how much we love referring to local massage therapists, sending people to yoga classes, and encouraging you to get moving—whether that’s the gym, hiking, walking, or chasing your kids around the park. And you know how often we talk about breath.
We believe wellness is about doing all the things to keep us in balance. But here’s the secret—it’s the order of operations that makes the biggest difference. (Yes, like the PEMDAS you learned in math class—only here it’s: Chiropractic, Exercise & movement, Massage, Breathwork, Alignment habits, and Self-care.)
When you start with chiropractic, you’re addressing the deepest root by stimulating the fast-twitch mechanoreceptors in your joints and fascia that only an adjustment can reach. From there, your body is primed and ready for everything else you do—your breathwork drops you deeper, your massages last longer, your workouts feel more fluid, and your grounding practices settle you more fully.
Why This Order Matters
Massage feels great, but if your brain is still running on outdated information, the muscle tightness often comes back quickly. Breathwork is powerful, but if your nervous system is in fight-or-flight mode because it’s misreading your body’s signals, you’ll struggle to fully drop into relaxation. Grounding in nature is healing, but if your brain can’t accurately register your body’s position, you won’t absorb the benefits as deeply.
Chiropractic care ensures that the master control system, the nervous system, is functioning clearly so all these other wellness tools can work better and deeper.

Pregnancy & Pediatric Examples
Pregnancy: A pregnant body is constantly adapting to new posture, ligament changes, and shifting center of gravity. An adjustment can help the nervous system process those changes smoothly, easing discomfort, supporting pelvic balance for birth, and making relaxation techniques more effective.
Pediatrics: Babies and kids are in rapid growth and development. If their proprioceptive feedback is distorted (from birth strain, early falls, or posture changes), it can impact milestones, coordination, and even emotional regulation. Adjustments help their brain-body connection thrive so that other therapies. Whether it’s tummy time, speech therapy, or simply playing outside, everything gets maximized.
Dr. Parker’s Story
Dr. Parker’s chiropractic journey started during his time as a wildland firefighter, when the long hours, heavy gear, and intense conditions left him in constant pain. On Dr. Sabrina’s recommendation, he began getting adjusted and the results were amazing.
But at first, he only went every so often. In between, he was still hitting the gym and getting intermittent massages, but nothing seemed to create lasting change. The pain and tension always crept back. It wasn’t until he committed to consistent care, following the recommendations, that they were able to get to the root of the problem. With his “operating system” fully reset, Parker could breathe deeper, move more freely, and hit new personal goals in both exercise and life. One adjustment every now and then simply can’t create that kind of lasting change.
The Takeaway
If your nervous system is the operating system, chiropractic care is the essential update that makes everything else work better. Instead of layering new practices on top of outdated programming, start with the reset and watch your breathwork, massage, grounding, and movement practices come alive.
We’re not here to tell you not to do massage, yoga, or breathwork, actually far from it. We’re here to help make sure all those incredible wellness tools work better and deeper for you. By starting with a nervous system reset, you lay the foundation for every other thing you do for your health to build upon.
